VIA Rail Canada Inc. is currently recruiting On-Train Senior Service Attendants for our Halifax Terminal in Nova Scotia.

Based in Halifax, you will work on the route traveling from Halifax to Montreal.

Duties of Senior Service Attendants:
• Provide unparalleled professional service to all travelers in accordance with VIA Rail’s Manual of Service Instructions.
• Ensure passenger safety per Transport Canada and VIA Rail guidelines.
• Participate in safety inspections, radio response, emergency response, and safety briefings.
• Assist with resolving operational challenges and passenger concerns.
• Provide First Aid and medical assistance as needed.
• Operate electronic devices to sell products, process tickets, and review manifests.
• Ensure compliance with Public Health Agency of Canada guidelines.
• Assist passengers with luggage and special requests.
• Prepare and serve food and beverages, including alcohol.
• Perform cart service.
• Board and detrain passengers.
• Receive and stow supplies.
• Prepare sleeping accommodations and make beds.
• Perform janitorial tasks.
Leadership Opportunities:
• Service Manager – $44.22 to $48.64
• Service Coordinator – $38.48 to $42.33
• Assistant Service Coordinator – $31.19 to $38.55
SCHEDULE
• Variable schedule including weekends, holidays, and on call (guaranteed hours)
• Extended 5‑day periods away from home
TRAINING
• Nine‑week training program
STARTING DATE
• Training begins March 23 and April 27, 2026.
REQUIREMENTS
• Availability for variable schedules including weekends and holidays.
• Availability to travel 4–5 days away from home.
• Strong oral communication in English and French.
• High school diploma.
• Minimum one year of customer service experience.
• Ability to lift up to 23 kg.
• Ability to work with heights/ladders.
• Ability to handle alcohol, seafood, and animal‑based foods.
