Position Summary
The Network Planning Analyst plays a key role in optimizing and developing VIA’s network by analyzing routes, frequencies, and schedules, and recommending strategic changes based on profitability, market trends, and competition. This role supports short-term service disruption planning, runs diagnostics and business cases to improve performance, and collaborates with other departments on long-term projects such as new fleet planning. The analyst develops tools to enhance internal processes, manages network planning data, prepares dashboards and reports, and contributes to VIA’s annual budget.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews VIA routes, frequencies and scheduled departure/arrival times to develop recommendations on current network and new markets and identify network development opportunities (new routes, stops, frequencies and capacity) based on profitability, trends, market studies and competitive landscape;
- Assists in Short term service disruption planning (Charter Trains / Major Events / Adjustment to reservation system);
- Collaborates with other departments on long-term strategic projects that require Network Planning expertise;
- Develops and improves tools, dashboards, and reports to optimize processes, ensures the management and integrity of network planning data, and provides essential input into VIA’s annual budget;
- Participates in ad hoc projects related to Commercial needs.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's degree in management science, economics, statistics, or a related field;
- At least three years of experience in transportation industry related to performance optimization (revenue management, demand forecasting, network planning or related field) or as data scientist;
- 5 – 8 years of work experience related to use of statistics, and data mining;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of analysis tools and software;
- Bilingualism in writing and speaking;
- Experience with S3P is a major asset;
- Good analytical skills;
- Ability to use technology to solve problems;
- Creativity and resourcefulness;
- Ability to build useful working relationships.
