VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada’s national passenger rail service, is looking a facilities management mechanic for the maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic-pneumatiqc systems of fixed and mobile installations, buildings.
Position located in Pointe‑Saint‑Charles.
Skills and Responsibilities
- Maintenance, repair, and installation of rotating machinery such as air compressors, pumps, motors, mechanical drives, actuators, and their controls.
- Repair and maintenance of compressors, fans, pumps, lifts, overhead cranes, winches, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
- Maintenance and repair of production equipment and automatic machine tools.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
- Troubleshooting techniques for equipment and systems.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) or College Studies Attestation (AEC) in industrial mechanics or maintenance.
- Valid qualification certificate in industrial construction and maintenance mechanics (Emploi Québec or CCQ).
- 5 years of relevant experience in maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and modification of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for fixed and mobile building equipment.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work independently, responsibly, and with minimal supervision.
- Strong priority‑management skills and team spirit.
- Physical ability to work at heights (scaffolds, ladders, lifts), in varied positions, or in confined spaces.
- Possession of competency and qualification cards (Confined Space, Red Flag, GIE, Electrical Safety, Working at Heights, Hot Work) — an asset; training can be provided internally.
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions, year‑round.
- Ability to use computer systems to read and complete work orders.
- Ability to work with an automated, interactive preventive maintenance program.
- Customer service experience.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform all other duties related to the trade.
- Ability to respond to emergency calls (occasionally), work overtime, and perform work outside regular hours (evenings, nights, weekends).
- Valid Class 5 Québec driver’s licence and ability to commute to the worksite.
- Ability to work on the day shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and be available for service calls outside regular hours.
- In the event of a transfer to the EM departments, the schedule will be governed by Collective Agreement 3.

- Evening premium: $1.50/h
- Night premium: $2.00/h
- Red Seal premium: $1.00/h
