The Mechanical Officer acts as the central point of contact between the OCC, mechanical services, suppliers and maintenance centres. His main mission is to take charge of operational mechanical issues in real time, in order to free up capacity among operations controllers, improve the fluidity of communications and reduce the operational impacts related to mechanical defects.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Operational mechanical support (real-time)

  • Answer mechanical calls via a dedicated mechanical services line, separate from regular operational channels;
  • Ensure the troubleshooting of minor mechanical problems, in collaboration with the OTS and LE teams when required;
  • Assess the seriousness of situations and integrate an MTA into the call for major or complex issues;
  • Participate in shadowing of calls with the Siemens Mechanical Desk to ensure information transfer and operational consistency.

 

OCC Link – Mechanical Service (Coordination and Communication)

  • Act as a functional bridge between the OCC and the maintenance centers (MMC, TMC, etc.);
  • Ensure the efficient flow of mechanical information between operations, maintenance and external partners;
  • Send "MTA Calls" emails to inform of interventions en route, decisions made and required follow-ups.

 

Fuel and fluid management

  • Manage fuel contracts;
  • Manage DEF contracts;
  • Monitor the fuel and DEF levels of the rolling stock and anticipate operational risks;
  • Coordinate with suppliers and field teams to avoid any supply disruption.

 

Compliance, inspections and waivers

  • Monitor equipment inspection deadlines;
  • Obtain waivers when certain inspections expire due to changes in cycles or operational constraints;
  • Ensure that any deviations are properly documented and communicated to the relevant parties.

 

Systems, Data and Continuous Improvement

  • Enter and update mechanical defects in CMMIS and eLogbook.;
  • Ensure the proper order and accuracy of equipment data in OBDS;
  • Monitor faults and alerts via Wi‑Tronix and initiate the required actions according to the established thresholds;
  • Participate in NAM meetings as a mechanical advisor, bringing a technical and operational perspective;
  • Identify recurring trends of defects with an operational impact and contribute to the improvement of processes between the OCC and mechanical services.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

 

  • College diploma in transportation or other related field OR equivalent training;
  • Five years of operational experience in the transportation sector;
  • Knowledge of network train operations and network geography (an asset);
  • General Mechanical Skills;
  • Ability to work various shifts (day, night, weekend);
  • Shift: 12 hour shift on a (3-2-2-3) schedule from 7 am - 7 pm. 
  • Solid knowledge of railway mechanical systems jargon;
  • Good understanding of OCC operations;
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize;
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills;
  • Comfortable with CMMIS systems, eLogbook, OBDS and monitoring tools;
  • Written and verbal proficiency in both official languages (English/French).
