Reporting to the Senior Officer, Network Operations Communications, the NCO continuously monitors operations to provide timely, accurate and useful information on train status when trains are delayed by operational issues. The NCO is the primary point of contact and reference for VIA personnel (station agents, managers, customer relations, social media managers, security department, property management department, etc.) on issues relating to train status, service disruptions, and when there is transportation of customers by other means. The NCO ensures that the information across all platforms remains consistent.
Responsibilities

Monitors operations to ensure that customers receive timely, accurate, consistent and useful information on train status when trains are delayed by operational issues.

Communicates with internal stakeholders on the status of train information during delays, service disruptions and when there is transportation of customers by other means.

Manages and updates the information in TSI+ when the automated mode is not available (due to GPS failure/issues or not properly tracking when in remote areas). Keep remote routes and communities updated through numerous points of contacts.

Works closely with operations controllers to ensure consistency in all communications: OCC Messaging, TSI+, VIAnet. Adjust OTP when necessary.

Produces various weekly/monthly/annual operations reports (Locomotive Idling, Power Braking, Missed Connections, NCO Stats, Christmas Plan…) and ensures that the information remains pertinent as well as consistent.

Updates the train performance message in VIAnet during service disruptions and train delays. Perform daily updates on train marshalling information and Service Manager lists.

Initiates, processes and transfers video downloads from locomotives that are involved in incidents.

Overrides doors in VIA’s automated station door control system when required.

Ensures that automated systems (TSI+ to VIAnet to Website) are properly tracking and feeding the information from one to the other and updates files and mapping of TSI+ on a monthly basis.

Using video feed, scans station platforms for snow clearing and notifies Real Estate when required. Advises Real Estate on station issues reported by OTS employees or various contractors.

Manages and updates the boarding locations and station messages (scrolling text) in CIS.

Initiates, processes and transfers audio downloads (telephone conversations).

Makes necessary arrangements for a Trauma counselor to meet locomotive engineers upon their arrival post incident.
Requirements

College diploma in Transportation or related field or a combination of equivalent training and pertinent experience.

Five years of experience in Operations within the Transportation industry.

Knowledge in system train operations and system geography (an asset)

Flexible to work on various shifts (days, nights and week-ends)

Must be technically savvy and capable of quickly learning/using a wide variety of technology systems and able to navigate complex computer systems.

Very good written and verbal communications skills in both official languages.
