POSITION:
To modernize this fleet and build a sustainable network, we are launching an ambitious renewal program. Based primarily in Montreal, our team is leading a strategic program that spans the country.
To successfully carry out these projects, VIA Rail is seeking a Project Controller to join the program team. In this role, you will play a key role in managing multiple projects and serve as an advisor to project managers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and manage project finances (accounts payable, forecasts, budgets, invoicing);Ensure compliance with deadlines for the project’s monthly financial management cycle (submission of accounts payable and forecasts);
- Work closely with the procurement and accounts payable departments on change requests and invoicing;
- Manage the monitoring and control of project execution: oversee progress reports and update project logs (approvals, use of contingencies, change requests, open items, risks, issues, resources, etc.);
- Contribute to project launch activities: drafting business plans, financial justifications, and project plans, schedules, and budgets;
- Analyze and evaluate project progress and support project managers in implementing corrective actions, as well as assist them with reporting;
- Advise project managers and program team members on the use of management standards and methods, as well as templates and other tools;
- Contribute to project closure activities: managing outstanding issues, tracking lessons learned, and administrative project closure.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, administration, or management, with three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience as a project controller;
- PMI certification (CAPM or PMP), a plus;
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Power BI;
- Knowledge of document management best practices and the SharePoint tool;
- Knowledge of cost tracking and project planning;
- Knowledge of the PMBOK and other project management methodologies, a plus;
- Familiarity with Oracle’s project cost modules is a plus;
- Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Problem-solving skills;
- Bilingualism (English and French).
