Reporting to the Senior Manager, Quality, as part of the operation and maintenance of a new fleet for the corridor, the Quality Engineer will work within the quality control team in close collaboration with the production, engineering and methods teams, as well as TSSSA. This role aims to implement quality tools for the new fleet, monitor and address non-conformities in order to reduce associated costs. We are looking to implement new quality processes and procedures in collaboration with our equipment supplier. The incumbent will be called upon to intervene and support operations as well as the engineering and management teams during upcoming changes.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead workshops to improve quality processes and drive quality initiatives for the new fleet;

• Develop and communicate key quality performance indicators for corporate governance;

• Create and maintain Quality Assurance Plans (QAP);

• Develop and enhance Quality Inspection Reports (QIR);

• Initiate, analyze, and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCR);

• Facilitate root cause analysis workshops and ensure follow-up on corrective actions;

• Perform inspections at hold points on equipment, first article inspections (FAI), and incoming parts inspections;

• Be responsible for the NCR process;

• Analyze audit metrics for management;

• Execute internal audits (maintenance plan and BO parts);

• Participate in audits conducted by the equipment supplier and respond to raised questions;

• Manage and contribute to quality-related projects as required or initiated independently;

• Manage and contribute to various continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency in equipment maintenance at maintenance facilities;

• Ensure identified non-conformities are corrected through the implementation of corrective actions;

• Draft quality processes, procedures, and tasks, then validate them on equipment in accordance with Reliability Group requests;

• Produce and update various operational reports with performance indicators;

• Prepare executive reports for the Venture program management.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor’s degree in quality, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a similar discipline;

• 5–10 years of experience in a similar role (knowledge of railways and/or VIA Rail equipment is an asset);

• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (an asset);

• Bilingual (oral and written) with strong technical writing skills;

• Experience in drafting/implementing QMS and ISO 9001:2015 certifications;

• Experience implementing Kaizen quality tools;

• Proficient in quality control and assurance tools and concepts (NCR process);

• Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel (knowledge of software engineering and CMMIS is an asset);

• Experience with dimensional measurement processes, traditional tools, and CMM;

• Good knowledge of reading drawings, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing (GD&T) ASME 14.5;

• Experience in an industrial workshop, ideally in heavy equipment maintenance;

• Experience in a unionized environment;

• Available for permanent travel (Montreal–Toronto);

• Primarily daytime work hours but may be required to work evenings or nights;
