The CMMIS Senior Information Technology (IT) Analyst acts as the bridge between the business/operational stakeholders and the IT/technical teams to ensure that VIA Rail’s Computerized Information Maintenance and Management System (CMMIS) solution effectively meets the business/operational needs.  This position is part of the LDRR program and assigned to both the LDRR CMMIS project and CMMIS integrations project. 

The CMMIS Senior IT Analyst is responsible for gathering business needs and requirements and designing the business processes associated to VIA Rail’s CMMIS solution (currently IBM Maximo) for the Rolling Stock assets. Additionally, the CMMIS Senior IT Analyst is responsible for translating business requirements into technical specifications to guide system design, configuration, development, and implementation. 

The CMMIS Senior IT Analyst will also integrate proven business analysis and project management methodologies along with relevant technologies, to recommend and implement solutions that address business needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead and conduct the requirements elicitation activities;
  • Conduct interviews and meetings with stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify, clarify, and document business needs, business rules, and current state and future state processes;
  • Get consensus and business approval on the requirements and specifications;
  • Develop and maintain deep understanding of the business processes and operations to ensure accuracy of business requirements and solution alignment to the operations context;
  • Work with the IT technical teams to define optimal solutions to meet the business requirements as well as to reduce gaps between the solution’s technical capabilities and business/operational expectations;
  • Work in collaboration with the architects and other IT analysts to refine requirements and evaluate the impacts on existing processes and systems;
  • Participate in design workflows and application configuration activities;
  • Validate technical designs;
  • Analyze the feasibility of technical options;
  • Support the project teams during the entire project life-cycle (project initiation, design, development, test, launch, and closure);
  • Collaborate with organizational change management leads and champions to provide input to the organizational change management strategies and plans;
  • Translate and document business requirements into detailed requirements, functional specifications, technical specifications, and design documents;
  • Based on the analysis and the solution architecture, document operational and technical requirements (such as data structure, user stories, data migration requirements, and interfaces);
  • Conduct the analysis, creation, reviews, and updates of CMMIS related process maps and procedures for business process flows;
  • Document and present to the business SMEs and/or suppliers the current state processes (As-Is) impacted by the project;
  • Work with key stakeholders to define the future state process (To-Be) and gaps; 
  • Document the future state (To-Be) processes and gaps;
  • Participate in defining and reviewing the test strategies and plans;
  • Support and participate in the testing, Quality Assurance (QA), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities;
  • Review the test results in collaboration with the test lead(s) and business SMEs to ensure the solutions meet the business/operational needs and comply with the requirements;
  • Support the project deployment and go-live activities; 
  • Support deployment activities related to updates, upgrades, and patches in a hybrid continuous deployment and/or in a traditional change management mode.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, engineering, or equivalent education and/or experience;
  • Certified Business Analysis Processional (CBAP) certification (an asset);
  • At least 10 years of experience in gathering, eliciting and managing business and functional requirements, writing user stories / use cases, process mapping, or equivalent; 
  • Excellent written and verbal proficiency in both official languages (English/French);
  • Available to travel 20% of the time.
