Reporting to the Director TSSSA, the Senior Engineer, Mechanical will advocate for the optimal performance and reliability of rolling stock and associated systems assigned under your responsibility by overseeing and collaborating with contractor’s technical team to address current or potential failure modes. This role involves analyzing equipment performance data, identifying potential failures, and implementing preventive and corrective actions to minimize downtime and extend asset lifespan. The engineer is also responsible to support the Equipment Maintenance team on troubleshooting and investigations of current defects and to provide technical expertise guidance. Through continuous monitoring and improvement, the Senior Engineer, Mechanical plays a key role in maintaining the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the fleet.
Responsibilities:
Technical support
- Act as the system SME and provide on-site support for technicians, technical advisors and suggest training improvements;
- Address technical questions and evaluate contractor’s recommendations, as well as provide technical expertise for troubleshooting.
System failure investigation
- Lead the investigation of rolling stock failures, review contractor’s reports and approve suggested technical modifications made by contractor (e.g. FMI/TRP).
Reliability monitoring
- Obtain and analyze reliability data related to the systems assigned under your responsibility;
- Review and monitor trends and identify issues/Failure modes and work collaboratively with our technical support contractor to address recurring issues and influence design improvements.
Maintenance program and system
- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders required (EM, CMMIS product owner, BI, TA) to ensure the data input in the system enables the incumbent to perform in-depth analysis to improve efficiency of the maintenance tasks for systems under your responsibility.
Compliance and improvement
- Responsible to monitor and ensure regulatory compliance, advise contractor of changes and communicate with internal stakeholders;
- Work together with reliability and maintenance engineer to improve inspection procedures and suggest changes to maintenance plan.
Technical follow-up
- Lead the monitoring of changes applied to the systems under your responsibility and track technical open points with contractor (work instruction/procedures clarification, tooling, pass/fail criteria, etc).
Requirements:
- 5-8 years of experience in rolling stock industry;
- 3-5 years in a role that is responsible for reliability monitoring and improvement of specific systems;
- Deep technical knowledge on specific rolling stock systems;
- Hands on experience in supporting the shop floor technicians;
- Familiarity with environmental, health and safety policies as they apply to a maintenance work environment;
- On-site support for both maintenance centers (MMC and TMC) so travel might be required to fulfill mandate.
