Under the leadership of the Senior engineering manager, the reliability engineer will improve the reliability of VIA Rail's off-corridor fleet systems. He will optimize maintenance operations to ensure equipment availability. With their engineering knowledge and team support, they lead their projects to completion.
Responsibilities:
- Implement appropriate changes to maintenance, repair, operation and purchasing practices, and determine the proper use of condition-based, time/use-based, and fault-finding maintenance practices;
- Propose and evaluate configuration changes to improve safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, and develop and review specifications for repairs;
- Maximize the reliability and cost-effectiveness of rolling stock systems and components by developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reliability and cost targets, and analysis methodologies to measure these elements;
- Acquire and analyze reliability and cost data, prepare diagrams, charts, calculations and reports to monitor trends, define problems, and identify opportunities to improve safety and reliability while reducing costs;
- Use simulation tools and statistical techniques to analyze data.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field;
- OIQ Member;
- 5 to 8 years of experience in the rolling stock or transportation industry;
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a reliability-focused role;
- Extensive technical knowledge of specific rolling stock systems.
Skills:
- Mastery of reliability analysis tools and methodologies such as FMEA, RAM analysis, fault tree analysis (FTA), root cause analysis (RCA);
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills;
- Proficiency with reporting and coding tools (e.g., PowerBI, SQL, Python);
- Data analysis and interpretation skills;
- Communication and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of industry best practices;
- Excellent written and oral language skills in both official languages (English/French);
- Knowledge of AutoCad and SolidWorks CAD software.
