Reporting to the Senior Director, Enterprise Project Management Office, the Senior Manager, IT Project Delivery is responsible for the overall management and delivery of VIA's assigned IT projects and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Corporation's internal standards and procedures. They will lead a team of project managers dedicated to the execution of projects of a technological nature for different functions of the organization.

R
esponsibilities:

Manage the Project Delivery Team – IT Portfolio:

 

• Lead a team of project managers (permanent staff and consultants) and monitor their projects, including scope, budgets, timelines, risks and issues;

• Control and supervise the work performed and manage productivity levels by holding individual and team meetings as required;

• Manage resources allocated and assigned to projects and ensure that skills are used effectively;

• Mentor and coach project managers to foster their ongoing personal development and collaboration and engagement within the Corporation;

• Manage performance by setting common and individual goals based on business objectives;

• Conduct annual performance reviews;

• Perform administrative tasks related to resource management (payroll and other employee support);

• Take charge of the recruitment of staff in collaboration with human resources.

IT Project Portfolio Management:

 

• Collaborative management of the portfolio of initiatives resulting from the technology action plan;

• Contribute to preliminary evaluations of initiatives;

• Contribute to categorizing initiatives and determining the required project management support model;

• Review Business Cases to ensure compliance and quality and maintain a relationship with the organization's stakeholders;

• Liaise regularly with project/portfolio stakeholders and prepare monthly IT Portfolio Health Presentations;

• Overall health of the portfolio from a financial point of view as well as issues concerning resources, blockers, risks etc.;

• Maintain accurate knowledge of each project managed by their team allowing them to describe and obtain approval of the action plan undertaken for projects with problematic health indicators;

• Perform workforce capacity management to support decision-making on portfolio timelines.

Project Management:


• Support project managers in starting projects and resolving issues;

• Ensure that IT projects are carried out efficiently based on constraints set by internal clients and business partners;

• Monitor the quality and performance of ongoing projects and establish action plans to correct problems;

• Manage and control any significant changes to the scope, budget, schedule or content of key projects;

• Ensure that methodological requirements as prescribed by the Enterprise Project Management Office are met;

•​​​​​​​ In collaboration with project controllers and the finance team, ensure that project budgets are managed effectively.


Compliance and best practices:
 

•​​​​​​​ Ensure compliance with VIA's Enterprise Project Management Office standards and procedures;

•​​​​​​​ Ensure compliance in the control process for the production of deliverables at each stage, management of contracts and procurement;

•​​​​​​​ Maintain and ensure the use of Enterprise Project Management Office templates and procedures;

•​​​​​​​ Contribute to the advisory committee of the enterprise project management office in the evolution of practices, methods and tools;

•​​​​​​​ Participate in the continuous improvement initiatives of the Enterprise Project Management Office.

 

Requirements:

•​​​​​​​ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, IT or related field and 10 years of project management experience for medium to large projects in the IT, telecom and business field. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered;

•​​​​​​​ 5 years of experience managing/leading others;

•​​​​​​​ Expertise in the design of business processes, solutions and systems, as well as in change management in these types of environments (an asset);

•​​​​​​​ Hands-on knowledge of systems development and project management tools and methodologies such as MS Project, EPM, PMBOK, Macroscope and ITIL;

•​​​​​​​ PMP certification (a major asset).

•​​​​​​​ Good with numbers; Strong analytical capabilities;

•​​​​​​​ Ability to demonstrate leadership and influence team members by demonstrating a professional attitude and skills;

•​​​​​​​ Good negotiation skills and ability to influence others;

•​​​​​​​ Commitment to continuous development: Desire to stay up to date with best management practices and project management tools in order to maintain a high degree of project management expertise.
