VIA Rail and its partners are implementing an Enhanced Train Control (ETC) program that integrates Driver Awareness Systems (DAS) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP) solutions, including ETCS and PTC technologies.

The Senior Project Engineer is involved from program initiation through commissioning and operations. He/she leads the definition of functional and technical requirements, high-level system architecture, interface management, and technical governance. As a key technical authority, the role serves as the primary liaison between engineering teams, project management, suppliers, host railways, and regulatory stakeholders.

 

•Lead the definition of system requirements, technical feasibility studies, and statements of work.

•Develop high-level system architectures, functional diagrams, and interface definitions.

•Oversee interoperability and integration of onboard, wayside, and control center systems.

•Coordinate design reviews, ensure compliance with specifications, and assess change impacts.

•Support supplier solution evaluations, as well as verification, validation, testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities.

•Manage technical documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and requirements traceability.

•Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.

 

Required Profile

•Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Professional Engineer in good standing (P.Eng. / OIQ equivalent).

•More than 10 years of experience in railway signaling and train control systems.

•Strong knowledge of ETCS, ATP, PTC, and DAS; experience with CBTC and ATO is an asset.

•Proven experience working in complex, multidisciplinary, and matrix project environments.

•Strong leadership, influence, and stakeholder management skills.

•Excellent communication skills; bilingual English/French (oral and written).

•Availability to travel as required.
