Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering or their delegate, the Interiors Specialist is responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing improvements to the interior components and configurations of rolling stock, for both the Legacy fleet and the new Venture fleet. For the new fleet, the specialist must develop and formalize new preventive and corrective maintenance procedures tailored to the specific features of the interior layouts, in compliance with safety standards and manufacturers’ recommendations and TSSSA contract. The role ensures that technical solutions meet operational, regulatory, and customer experience requirements, while also managing part changes, component obsolescence, and supporting reliability initiatives in collaboration with internal teams.
RESPONSABILITIES
Design and implement improvements to the interior configurations/components of rolling stock
- Design and lead improvement projects for both the existing and new fleet, evaluating the technical and regulatory feasibility of interior systems;
- Develop designs (sketches, 2D/3D models, technical plans) and prepare complete documentation: material lists, procurement requests, service bulletins, maintenance procedures, operation guides, and parts recommendations;
- Estimate costs (materials, labor, design) and ensure budget and schedule tracking;
- Coordinate component selection with purchasing and prototype manufacturing with internal/external workshops;
- Organize and supervise functional testing of prototypes, document results, and adjust designs.
Support and optimize maintenance programs and reliability initiatives for interior systems for Venture fleet
- Actively contribute to improving maintenance practices and the performance of interior systems by implementing innovative solutions;
- Design maintenance tasks targeting interior presentation, cleanliness, and functionality to meet customer expectations and operational needs of onboard staff;
- Define, formalize, and revise maintenance procedures and intervals in compliance with safety standards, manufacturers’ recommendations, and the TSSSA contract;
- Validate maintenance procedures to ensure their relevance and applicability in the field before integration into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
- Ensure the drafting, management, and updating of technical documentation, as well as the integration of information into maintenance management systems.
Cross-functional technical support
- Respond to technical requests related to obsolescence, replacements, or adaptations of parts;
- Propose alternative solutions in case of component unavailability;
- Collaborate with internal teams (purchasing, quality, inventory, maintenance) for: Supplier selection and procurement, management of non-conformities and operational audit follow-up and support First Article Inspection (FAI) for new components and contribute to the selection of new suppliers.
- Provide technical support to ensure the compliance and reliability of implemented solutions.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Requirements
- University degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, electrical, or equivalent);
- Minimum 3 years of experience in railway maintenance, design, or technical support;
- Experience in creating and documenting maintenance procedures for interior systems or other systems;
- Ability to define preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and regulatory requirements;
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and documentation software (Adobe Suite, MS Office);
- Knowledge of applicable railway standards (NFPA 130, ADA) and maintenance practices;
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems (CMMS) for task creation and tracking;
- Project management skills and ability to work independently;
- Excellent communication skills and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams;
- Bilingual: French and English (spoken and written).
Assets
- Knowledge of the railway or transportation sector;
- Mastery of CSA D409 and EN 45545 standards;
- Experience in reliability engineering and optimization of maintenance plans;
- Skill in using Adobe Suite for technical documentation or visual presentations;
- Experience with commissioning projects or integration of a new fleet.
