Reporting to the Senior Specialist, Quality System, the incumbent performs quality inspection, audits and qualification of VIA Rail new and existing suppliers. He will participate in various continuous improvement initiative and implementation of quality department procedures to monitor and increase suppliers’ quality performance.

Responsibilities:
Supplier Quality Assurance Audits & Compliance:

  • Manage and Perform Product Qualification Process for critical suppliers;
  • Conduct supplier qualification audits (Quality Management System) per VIA Rail supplier qualification process;
  • Report on Supplier Quality Assurance audit findings to reduce non-conformances and identify areas for improvement opportunities for supplier;
  • Prepare and/or review the Quality Assurance Plan for major projects (rolling stock equipment) executed by external suppliers;
  • Continuous improve VIA supplier Quality procedure/process and audit process;
  • Analyze the audits for Product Qualification Process (PQP), FAI etc. and develop and present appropriate KPI to management.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Manage and contribute to various continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment maintenance operational efficiency in maintenance facilities;
  • Ensure non-conformances identified are rectified with the implementation of corrective actions following NCR process.

 

Management meetings and reporting:

  • Produce and update various audit and qualification reports with KPIs for management.

Support Quality programs for project:

  • Support QC inspectors assigned to projects and QA programs.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Mechanical, Industrial or similar discipline;
  • 5-10 years experience in a similar role (railroad and/or heavy transport industry or similar industry is an asset);
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (Asset);
  • Experience on supplier development process;
  • Experience on QMS rédaction/implémentation and ISO 9001 2015 certifications;
  • Experience on implementation of Kaizen quality tools;
  • Master quality assurance tools and concepts;
  • Experience on dimensional measurement process, classical tools and CMM;
  • Available to travel on an occasional basis. Work mainly on day shift but could work on evening and night shifts exceptionally for operational needs.

 

Competencies:

  • Ability to deal with supplier top management in diligent, diplomatic and efficient way;
  • Ability to base a judgment on the long term strategy (see the big picture);
  • Good knowledge on reading drawings, geometrical dimension and tolerancing (GD&T) ASME 14.5;
  • Ability to deal with supplier top management in diligent, diplomatic and efficient way;
  • Strong computer knowledge, in particular Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft suite (knowing software engineering tools is an asset;
  • Bilingual (In Quebec; oral and written), with strong competencies for technical writing.
