The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, enabling VIA to meet its scheduled operations and provide excellent customer service.

This designated safety-critical position entails working varying schedules, being away from home for extended periods of time, working under pressure and dealing with stressful factors all within the guidelines of the Railway Safety Act of Canada, the Canadian Railway Operating Rules as well as VIA Rail’s special instructions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

*** Qualified Locomotive Engineer
*** Very good spoken and written communication skills in English
*** Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualified
*** Operating experience will be evaluated and considered throughout the selection process
*** No criminal record
*** Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
*** Good technical and mechanical aptitudes
*** Track experience on the subdivisions for the position is a definite asset
*** Safety orientation, rigor and attention to detail
*** Decision making and problem solving abilities
*** Ability to work under pressure
*** Accountability
*** Customer Focus
