We are currently looking to hire locomotive engineers for the Toronto terminal which covers the Central Ontario region. This safety critical position plays an integral part in delivering our customer experience through the accountability for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew while meeting our scheduled operations.
The training will start in July 2025.

OPERATING UNDER STRICT CONFORMITY:
Operating at the utmost level of professionalism through masterful and rigorous application of the Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) and VIA Rail’s special instructions in all situations with Safety at the forefront.
MULTITASKING IN A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT:
Demonstrating constant situational awareness, solid reasoning and a capacity to process a lot of information and apply the rules at high speeds and reprioritizing as required in a timely manner.
WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITHIN AND BEYOND THE LOCOMOTIVE:
Continuous communication and collaboration with crew members, rail traffic controllers, VIA’s operation’s control center, etc. ensuring a safe and efficient operational execution which is an integral part of VIA Rail’s Customer Experience.
UPDATING YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS:
Being up-to-date on all procedures, special instructions and modifications regarding the CROR, Regulations and Special instructions at all times.
DISPLAYING A CUSTOMER CENTRIC ATTITUDE:
Having the passengers' and crew's well-being at mind and heart in the execution of your tasks, from train handling to interacting with the general public

WHAT WE REQUIRE:
• CROR qualified Locomotive Engineers or CROR qualified train conductors with a minimum of 2 years experience
• Ability to work on varying schedules
• Working away from home terminal on a regular basis
• Knowledge of Central Ontario territory an asset (South Western and Central Ontario, as well as Quebec)
• High School Diploma
• Good English communication skills, spoken and written
