Reporting to the Senior Specialist Quality System, the incumbent is responsible to perform quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with VIA Rail's maintenance practices and governmental regulations. Acting as a liaison with Transport Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada for the Equipment Maintenance group, they will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of best practices.
Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance Audits & Compliance:
- Manage the internal audit program, process and tools, including planning, monitoring & control;
- Conduct internal quality assurance audits and follow up on non-conformances until resolution;
- Report on Quality Assurance audit findings to reduce non-conformances and identify areas for improvement opportunities of maintenance operations;
- Ensure non-conformances identified are rectified with the implementation of corrective actions;
- Continuously improve internal audit processes and analyze audit metrics for management;
- Support external audits conducted at VIA Rail.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
- Draft and validate equipment maintenance quality processes, procedures, and tasks;
- Prepare VIA Rail’s responses to inspection reports and requests from Governmental agencies;
- Support the documentation group in continuous efforts in improving the structure and readiness of the Maintenance Program;
- Write equipment maintenance quality processes, procedures, tasks and validate on equipment in collaboration with Engineering;
- Produce and update operational reports with KPIs for the Management.
Continuous Improvement & Projects:
- Contribute to various continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment maintenance operational efficiency in maintenance facilities;
- Represent the Technical Services group in matters related to railway equipment inspections;
- Implement and apply quality assurance tools, including Kaizen methodologies;
- Support QC inspectors and the overall QA program.
Stakeholder Support & Communication:
- Produce and present SMS (Safety Management System) materials in meetings as required;
- Develop and present QA reports for senior managers in Equipment Maintenance and other VIA Rail departments.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in: Quality, Mechanical, Industrial, or similar discipline;
- 5-10 years experience in a similar role (rail or heavy transport industry or similar industry is an asset);
- Membre of an Engineer Professional Order (OIQ, PEO, PEBC) in the working province (asset);
- On site experience with manufacturing or maintenance facilities;
- Experience on QMS rédaction/implémentation and ISO 9001 2015 certifications;
- Experience on implementation of Kaizen quality tools;
- Master quality assurance tools and concepts;
- Experience on dimensional measurement process, classical tools and CMM;
- Good knowledge on reading drawings, geometrical dimension and tolerancing (GD&T) ASME 14.5.;
- Ability to deal with supplier in diligent, diplomatic and efficient way;
- Strong computer knowledge, in particular Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft suite (knowing software engineering practices is an asset);
- Bilingual (In Quebec; oral and written), with strong competencies for technical writing;
- Available to travel on an occasional basis. Mainly on day shift but could work on evening and night shifts exceptionally for operational needs.
