VIA Rail is currently seeking applications from qualified Conductors, within the Railway Industry, those candidates will be trained and qualified as Locomotive Engineers. Position available in July 2025 in the Central Ontario region.
The training program will last approximately 10 months and will include 2 months of classroom training (in English) at our Toronto Maintenance Centre, and approximately 8 months of practical training will take place in the Toronto region which is also the reporting terminal for the employees who will successfully qualify.
General Information about the Locomotive Engineer position at VIA Rail Canada:
• The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, enabling VIA to meet its scheduled operations and provide excellent customer service.
• This designated safety-critical position entails working varying schedules, being away from home for extended periods of time, working under pressure, and dealing with stressful factors.
• High School Diploma obtained or degree of superior level
• Possess a Conductor Qualification (or equivalent) from a Canadian Railway
• Possess a minimum of two (2) years working experience as a qualified conductor (or conductor equivalent) and be actively working as such for a Railway within Canada
• Possess an up-to-date Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification
• Possess an exemplary safety record
• Have very good spoken and written communication skills in English
• Have no criminal record
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Able to meet the physical requirements to carry out the duties related to the position
• Good technical and mechanical aptitudes
